Why I Designed a Better Bread Lame
I designed this bread lame to make scoring dough more precise, comfortable, and creative. It began with a simple question: how could a small razor blade become a better tool for shaping beautiful bread?
From a Simple Idea to a Working Prototype
I started with simple cardboard prototypes because cardboard was inexpensive and easy to cut and reshape. My goal was to create a practical form first, before moving on to more suitable materials.
Testing, Learning, and Improving
I tested each prototype by using it to score gough and observing how easily it could create clean, controlled cuts. Every test revealed something new and helped me improve the shap, balance, and handing of the tool.
From Prototype to Product
After many rounds of testing, Imoved from cardboard to more suitable materials and refined the design for real-world use. Each version became more stable, more comfortable to hold, and easier to control when scoring dough.
The Final Design
The final design combines a replaceable razor blade with a carefully shaped handle that is comfortable to hold and easy to control. It is designed to help bakers create precise scores and beautiful patterns on their gough.
